some words in putonghua and minnan are the same in consonant at the beginning like 殺 sa in mandarin=sat in minnan.some are not the same like 发 fa in mandarin is huat in minnan.
others like yu 玉(a good name for girl too) in mandarin is giok and gik in minnan.
你 ni (you) is the same in mandarin and minnan
I have read a book saying it will show that we have good knowledge of hanzi if we pick hanzi which are reserved for people's name only.
