Yes, Casey,It is surely from mandarin.What I am trying to say is Prof.唐作藩of Beijing University said 開車 的 開 is new invention as well.No such usage in old chinese.
This book is useful to know the benzi 哲 has a baidu as cai1 .It is not 知。2000 years book 揚雄-方言-黨﹑曉﹑哲﹐知也。楚謂之黨(音同懂)﹐或曰曉﹐齊宋之間謂哲。
we use 曉hiau2 and 哲cai1.
There is another sound different in each setc for saying Yes 諾 in minnan.It is from史記or earlier.
