A characteristic of my dialect (同安話), some words are given additional '-i' sound, e.g. floor = 土腳 tho`5-kha1 -> 土腳仔 tho`5-khai1_a8 (kha becomes khai); we call guava nai2-a2-puat8 (other dialects na-a-puat); 鴨仔 ai5_a8 (others: ah4-ah0). So it is possible for 舉 to be kui2 or kui1 in my dialect, but I doubt this can apply to others. So may be 舉 is not the proper character either, unless other dialects have this -i characteristic also or instead of kui1 they say ku2/ku1 for whole, or other possible explanations... hope someone can help us here
