Re: Happy Chinese New Year of the Rabbit 2011!
Hi xng,
As I understand it, CNY is quite big in Amsterdam Chinatown. They have a dragon or lion dance, with lots of firecrackers hanging from poles. The streets around Chinatown are completely covered in exploded shreds of red paper each year. I only enjoyed firecrackers when I was young and find them an unpleasant racket nowadays, so I avoid CNY in Amsterdam Chinatown, and have never actually seen it in person. I'm quite happy it exists, for the sake of "preservation of Chinese culture" (whatever that means), I just don't want to be around when it happens .

It must be relatively boring when compared to Malaysia where everywhere is red in color, from lion dance to red underwear.SimL wrote:Hi xng,

By the way, do you go back to Malaysia or Singapore at all ?
Re: Happy Chinese New Year of the Rabbit 2011!
No, hardly ever. I haven't lived in Malaysia for about 40 years, and, aside from my attachment to Hokkien, there isn't that much there for me nowadays.
