Chinese languages

I was wondering if someone could tell me what Hong means...like in Hong Kong. I would also like to know how it is used in first names? Is Hong usually a first name only for a male subject? Or for females as well? Thx

Its hard to help you on this, if I don't know the context or tone. I know that "Hong" could for example mean "red" as in "hongludeng" ( trafficlight ).
