Of course it is necessary to translate words borrowed from foriegn languages into Hanzi. The Chinese writing system *IS* Hanzi. Pinyin is only used as a tool for learning and/or translating Chinese.

Chinese does not have many loanwords from other languages. Chinese "translates" them.
