taiwanese-chinese
Re: taiwanese-chinese
There is a standard written Chinese, and there are also spoken dialects. The Mandarin spoken in Taiwan differs slightly to the putonghua Mandarin in China, in particular the merging of zh ch sh into z c and s for a sizeable number of Taiwan speakers.
Taiwanese is not exactly Mandarin, and it refers mostly to southern Chinese Hokkien speech, see another forum on this site on Minnan. The term Taiwanese is a hijacked name IMO, since there are a sizeable proportion of Minnan speakers in Taiwan, but there are also Mandarin and Hakka speakers too, and the indigenous aboriginals, and speakers of Japanese too.
