Names, names, names ...

Hi all,

Introduction:
I was constructing my own address in Chinese. - Last year I got a stamp with my
given name (see at the end here). Some of the names can be found as "official"
translations. - With the name of the district and the streetname I'm still unsure
how to construct them, phonetic or logographic... (there are no "official" trans-
literations/translations yet).

The following (what I have found so far in English) might be of general interest:

地球 di4 qiu2 - the Earth
月球 yue4 qiu2 - the Moon (1st symbol also used for month)
日 - ri4 - the Sun (also used for day) (太阳 - tai4 yang2)

Continent Names
    Africa - 非洲 fei1 zhou1 - non-/not
Australia - 澳洲 (澳洲) ao4 zhou1 - deep and mysterious water
    (Australia - 澳大利亚 (澳大利亞) ao4 da4 li4 ya4 - phonetic)
    Antarctica - 南极 (南極) nan2 ji2 - south pole

Penang Street Names (found in this forum ;) )
English & Chinese given names and family names

This seems to be the most wanted chapter. ;-)
Numbers

It seems to be in use to take the latin numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, ...) instead of
the chinese numbers (一, 二, 三, 四, ...) in addresses, phone numbers, etc.

How to learn Chinese is a frequently asked question. Occasionally, people would like to find a tutor to help them learn Chinese. Actually, in modern times with fast development of internet, online mandarin Chinese seems more efficient. In some cases, taking part in a face-to-face class could be inconvenient due to scheduling, traffics, safety, etc, especially for those kids who intend to learn Chinese for Children. Online mandarin Chinese avoids all these problems. Through internet, Native Chinese teachers can offer professional Chinese for Children and propose useful advice on how to learn Chinese. What’s more, online learning also offers convenience and flexibility.
