Chinese words

Post by pc2 »

salutations,

we are male from Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil; we are interested in Chinese language.
but we want to know something... we've got 3 doubts.

1. by what we see, Chinese is a rich language, is it?
but, using a dictionary or wordlist, how will we know which is the correct word to use? is Chinese vocabulary so rich?

other thing:
2. let's consider a phrase: hanbaobao haochi = hamburger good-eat = hamburger is delicious.
and now, haochi de hanbaobao = good-eat that hamburger = hamburger that is delicious. is this right?
these phrase constructions, a lot use the de particle. is that right? but in which other cases one uses de?

other thing:
3. the prepositions in Chinese: how do they look like and how to use them?

hihi...im from singapore...yeppy yes...chinese is extremely rich...there are many (many many) words that are very obscure n specific...that some are in use now...well to know which words to use, there are no other way but to know them...sorry for being blunt but thats the truth...

well anyway...there are roughly 56000 chinese characters (soe claimed to have much more) that form millions of compound-words...and yes again its very rich...

and yes about the hamburgers...BRAVO!!! you're absolutely correct...ok...de4(的) by itself indicates possession...

我的 wo3 de5 my one=mine
你的 ni3 de5 your one=yours
他的 ta1 de5 he one=his

我的汉堡包 wo3 de5 han4 bao3 bao1 "My hamburger."

这个是我的 zhe4 ge5 shi4 wo3 de4 "This is mine."

So 的 functions as "one"(not the numeral) too...

"你要什么颜色的" ni3 yao4 shen3 me4 yan2 se4 de5 you want what colour one= What colour do you want?

"我要红色的" wo3 yao4 hong2 se4 de5 I want red colour one= I want the red one.

And also as a "qualifier", -ic, -ly, -fy

"为什么你这样的" wei4 shen3 me4 ni3 zhe4 yang4 de5 why you this one= why you like that one=why is he like that

简单的 jian3 dan1 de5 simple, 简单的说(shuo1) to put it simply
科学的 ke1 xue2 de5 scientific
简化的 jian3 hua4 de5 simplified

and so on....

also means the do-er of something....may be people or objects

卖鱼的 mai4 yu2 de5 = 鱼贩 yu2 fan4
sell fish one = fish-monger

补鞋的 bu3 xie2 de5 = 鞋匠 xie2 jiang4
repair shoes one = cobbler

抹地的 ma1 di4 de5 = 拖把 tuo1 ba3
mop floor one = mop

煮水的 zhu3 shui3 de5 = 热水壶 re4 shui3 hu2
cook (boil) water one = kettle

as for preposition, they are just simple directional marker....like up down left right this kinda stuff...here are some most common one...

上面 shang4 mian4 up
下面 xia4 mian4 down
前面 qian2 mian4 front
后面 hou4 mian4 back
左边 zuo3 bian1 left
右边 you4 bian1 right
旁边 pang2 bian1 beside

我在他旁边 wo3 zai4 ta1 pang2 bian1 I am on his side = I'm beside him.

well...haha...hope this is helpful... :D ...
