Taiwanese Hokkiens should unite to preserve their heritage

Post by yeobh2 »

My greatest fear of the Hokkien language & culture slowly dying even in Taiwan where Taiwanese Hokkiens form the overwhelming majority of the population seems to be coming true with the KMT gaining 3/4 control of the Taiwanese legislature lately which will give the Mainlanders in collaboration with the Hakkas every opportunity to further suppress the Hokkien language & culture as was done in the past and elevate the position of the Hakkas. Unless the Taiwanese Hokkiens unite, there is no way they can regain their dominant position. The DPP might also lose the Taiwanese presidency come March, 2008. Soon, it might be the Mainlanders and Hakkas ruling the overwhelming Taiwanese Hokkien majority. How stupid of those Taiwanese Hokkiens to vote for their demise! I dread to think of such scenario becoming a reality and hope the Taiwanese Hokkiens would come to their senses and vote overwhelmingly for Frank Hsieh to be the first Taiwanese President who is truly a Hokkien.
