Eugene...
How good are the tapes that you are using.???
i have pretty much completed the colloqual cantonese course yet feel that i am not nearly where i want to be in terms of my language skill....
i had a look at the web site and the cost of the tapes you are using...... fairly pricey......
did you get both sets of tapes and how good are they i guess is my main question...
I am also living in sydney as i have mentioned before...... where abouts are you from exactly... maybe we could pool our efforts.
you can email me on skinnpd@hotmail.com

Progress in learning Cantonese by tapes
Pete,
I have completed the easy tape course - Pimsleur. It is 30 lessons which have no written work and can be done perhaps three times each, so about 90 hours. If you pushed yourself you could do one a day and get it over in a month. You learn only about 100 words and you learn them fairly well. I support Pimsleur - it is an easy way to start speaking and great backup for my hard course.
The hard course (FSI) is going well too - I am at lesson 20 of 30. I bought both parts of the course (Part I is lessons 1-15 and Part II the rest). Lessons twelve to eighteen were tough, which is good because I am feeling like I am breaking the back of it. I still have a lot of work to do to be fluent, even though I know about 500 words.
When I have finished I will need to revise some things as well as start speaking to actual Cantonese speakers. So I have still have need of the courses for another year or so at least. I'll e-mail you and discuss this more.
Cheers,
Eugene
