The romanization of 'Salty Duck Egg' in Yale Romanization System is 'haam daan' (note: this is not a complete romanization since tone is missing).

it is chinese common knowledge that salted eggs are made from duck eggs so the 'duck' is not included in 'haam daan', meaning salted eggs.

A Salty Duck Egg 'haam daan' is a duck egg covered in black stuff (salt?) .
You need to remove that, and boil the egg to eat. It is very salty.
when saying "someone" had gone to sell salty duck eggs, it means that that someone had passed away. It is an informal to tell someone had died.

SS is correct. 鹹蛋haam4 daan6(colloquial daan2) - salted egg, is a kind of preserved egg which must be made of duck egg 鴨蛋aap3 daan6, and usually, Cantonese don’t say haam4 aap3 daan6 as haam4 daan6 alone means salted duck egg. When saying that someone has gone to sell haam4 aap3 dann2, it means the one has passed away. By the way, the black stuff is ashes of burned grass (paddy stalk) mixed with salt water.
