Tone for "SAU MEI" = AT LAST

The word for "at last" (SAU MEI) SAU= Take and MEI as in tail. Both words are in the high tone, the first tone right? I am sure it is, even though Mei or tail is normally pronounced in the 5th, or low rising tone. But in SAU MEI it changes to high tone...right??

yep, in sau mei, the mei is pronounced mei1 first tone/high tone. as is with hau mei, but with hau mei, both are pronounced high tone as in hau1 mei1.
