Dear readers,
What about the character for "nihng" as in "nihng tau" (shake the head)?
Is this a Cantonese dialectal character?

Shake the head
Re: Shake the head
Dear HK guy,
According to the book series FSI (Foreign Service Institute) Cantonese, "Some educated speakers do not have initial n in their speech, and substitute l whenever n occurs. This is quite common in Hong Kong." I think this is the case with your pronunciation of shake (the head).
You can read the posting by Simon above, he also touches on this subject.
