More sentence patterns in Penang Hokkien

Post by Ah-bin »

"The sooner you start work the more money you will get"

I am guessing the natural way to express this would be

Lu start cho-kang kha cha, lu than-tioh e lui e kah che 你start做工kha早 你趁著个鐳會kha多

"The longer I study the better I get at speaking"

Wa oh kha ku wa kha gau kong 我學kha久我kha gau講

Perhaps it needs a "to" (then) inserted after wa and lu?

But am I wrong? In Taiwanese they use a 緊....緊.... kin.... kin.... construction similar to the Mandarin 越 .....越.....
愈...... 愈..... I've never heard this in Penang Hokkien

Penang Hokkien does use the 愈...... 愈..... construction, e.g. ju oh, ju e-hiau. But I don't think you can apply this to the "sooner you start" sentence.
